Robert & Jan's Story

Banksia Village residentsRobert and Jan Mitchell are two of Banksia Villages newer residents, having moved into their villa in late 2015.

Prior to this, after retiring from their rewarding careers – Robert was a professor at the University of Canberra, and Jan a physiotherapist – they had lived in the home they’d built together in nearby Catalina.

As Jan tells it: “Eventually things got to the stage where the house and garden were getting too much for us, and we started to think about downsizing. We looked at our options and knew we wanted to avoid multiple moves as our needs changed. So we decided to go straight into a retirement village. And when we saw the villa at Banksia, we knew it was perfect for us. Having services such as an on-site hairdresser and physio is another benefit for us.”

Robert and Jan enjoy an active life outside the Village, and love to hit the highway in their caravan when they can. They’re also keen bridge players, and started a group for Banksia residents not long after they moved in, which is continuing to grow.
